Life and friendship, twenty years from 2000

I feel most of the answers of difficult times come from your friends, but specially, the deep reflection of life, comes from friends made in college that stick with you all your adult life. So Ilse, Veronica, Gaby, Brenda, Yolanda, and me, have shared so many problems, laughter, advice inside our hearts over the past twenty years.
This 2020, our twentieth year College Graduation Anniversary trip to Tulum, was radically canceled with the sudden spread of COVID and the pandemic state the world is living in.

That didn’t stop us from getting together and moving our meeting to zoom. Wine in each of our hands through the screens of our computers, we got together to talk about our life.
20 years finally we had to admit, have passed fast, but actually is a long time. And we had to talk about the differences between 2000 and 2020: Social media, Whatsapp, Iphones and many other things. “But that is nothing. The world our nieces and daughters live is so different, and they demand answers.” ― Yolanda said.

“Did you guys see this?”― Brenda, who is a marketing director in a multinational company, played the ad Like a Girl by Always. We made a toast over the marketing campaign. Suddenly, our careers, our families, were there, in one simple powerful message. The new social freedom for women, and the importance of erasing social stigmas.

The zoom meeting was long, filled with jokes, and also tears. But at the end, I felt the need to improve my marketing skills through the Digital Marketing Nanodegree Program. Not just to be updated in an always changing labor escenario, but to be able to give strong messages to our society to connect and help the new generation, to be part of the changes needed in this world. A deep understanding of the new trends of marketing is not only important to our careers but to inspire and give the best of us to the next generations.
